What Is The Best Watch -A Time Piece for the Peace Keeper

What is the best watch?, In my opinion you can’t look past the rugged versatility, reliability and functionality of the Casio G-Shock.

In my own career I’ve only ever owned a G-Shock watch. They have fared well in extreme wet and cold conditions to hot humid and dry tropical climates. From being out in the forest to working out at sea. They have proven time and time again how tough and reliable they are.

With the diverse security work and environments I’ve worked in I have owned at least two G-Shock watches. Today, we’re spoiled for choice and Casio have a range of watches to fit any preference and tackle every requirement. But where do you start? Let me offer some of my choices.

The Best G-SHOCK FOR Police/Security

Casio Men’s G-SHOCK – The GA 100-1A1 Military Series

With an analog-digital design display, this watch is a perfect watch for a variety of situations. This is a whole lot of watch and being an X-Large model it allows room for the digital displays and three chronograph sub-dials.

This can’t be seen on any other watch and is one of the larger sized G-Shocks. That’s good news, if you’ve got a thicker than normal wrist,

It has skeleton analog hands without luminescent paint on them.

The illumination system is based on a poor LED light which only makes two digital displays visible, not the index hands. So don’t expect to be able to read the hour in dark environments. I suppose the last thing you want is to alert anyone to your position on a security detail or mission anyway.

Also, learned that the alarms are not as loud as I expected. Could be louder.

G-Shock has incorporated great features in the GA100-1A1 BLACK RESIN MILITARY SERIES. The display is fragmented because it is an analog-digital. It is a combination of physical indicators with two digital displays.

Behind the index arm or back of the display, there are three circular analog indicators which are the snooze alarms, speed and lap number.

The other two small digital displays can be configured for other functions like the stopwatch, world time, date, and more. You can do this by using the four configuration buttons on the side of the watch. More info can be found in the user’s manual, found on the Casio’s website.

The illumination output is based on a poor LED light. It makes the two digital displays visible, not the index hands, so you won’t be able to read the hour in the dark. Also, the alarms are loud enough for most situations but not as loud as I expected.

Features

  • Analog-digital display
  • 1/1000 stopwatch
  • shock water and magnet resistant up to 200m,
  • a countdown timer,
  • an auto-calendar,
  • world time with 29 different zones
  • speed indicators,

There’s a reason why Casio is loved and revered, and it’s because they only include the stuff that’s useful without compromising on design and a great price

This is a great watch. It’s lightweight and professional looking, with a rugged and durable demeanor. Click here to get yours now.

BEST G-SHOCK FOR The Outdoor Action Man

CASIO MEN’S GW-9400-1CR “MASTER OF G”

If you’re a security operator who lives for the outdoors and works predominantly in the field. Then let me introduce you to the GW-9400-1CR ‘Master of G’.

Also known as the ‘Rangeman’ G-Shock has stacked this watch with a number of sensors and features that would appeal to the discerning action man or woman.

The band and case are made from high-quality black resin typically found on G-Shocks. The window is very protective and made of a mineral crystal and It would take a similar material to scratch it. The digital display, automatically lights up when in dark environments.

Let’s talk about the triple sensor and compass. This is an important feature of the ‘Rangeman’.

The altimeter is a sensor that measures altitude which tells you the altitude you’re at. You’ll have to set the altitude reference only once but you’ll have a reliable altimeter available to you at any time. This feature can be useful to hunters for example who need to know the altitude in order to correlate where plants live and match this information with where certain types of animals live or come for that plant food. This is a tool if used correctly and could even replace a GPS.

The barometer measures atmospheric. It enables you to predict the weather A fall in pressure means you can expect for rainy weather or storms and when the pressure reads high, then you can expect to have sun filled weather.

The thermometer shows the temperature. The compass reads true north as well as your target bearing. The triple sensor is simple to use. By pushing the middle right button; you will hear the first beep which indicates altimeter mode. Two beep is for the compass and three beeps will activate the barometer and thermometer combined. What’s also useful is, measurement can be converted from metric to imperial mode.

Features

  • A Triple Sensor including an Altimeter, Barometer, a Thermometer,
  • A Compass,
  • Sunset and sunrise times,
  • MB6 atomic timekeeping,
  • Time stamp,
  • 4 alarms, auto-LED,
  • 1/10 second stopwatch,
  • Countdown timer,
  • Calendar,
  • Solar power.

There is something here for everyone to enjoy. The Rangeman is unusually lighter for a G-Shock. Make no mistake though this watch can withstand everything expected of an active life. I would recommend it to the outdoor adventurer. Check it out here You won’t be disappointed.

BEST G-SHOCK FOR the Maritime Operator

CASIO MEN’S G7900-1 G-SHOCK RESCUE DIGITAL SPORT WATCH

At 49 mm in diameter, the G7900-1 G-Shock is a “smaller” G-Shock watch. Featuring a 15mm thick case and a comfortable resin band, its light and unassuming. It has functions that can be used by the military professionals but by all adventurers.

Typical to G-Shock watches, is the feature that allows users to activate the backlight of the watch with a simple twist of the wrist. This simple function means you can read the time without pushing a button to illuminate the watch. Also, the illuminator only activates automatically, in low-light or no-light conditions.

Another useful feature specially designed for the military professional, but also for the active travelers is the world time, a characteristic that allows checking the time in 29 different time zones and 48 cities worldwide.

The Casio G7900-1 G-Shock watch also has five independent alarms, four are multi-function alarms designed for specific events. The last alarm is a regular snooze alarm typically used to wake up. It will alert you using acoustic signals, also used with other functions too, like the countdown timer and stopwatch.

Any time an alarm sets off, a visual flash alert is also triggered to notify you of the event. The flash alert can also be used as an hourly signal together with the acoustic alert or together with the countdown beeper to signal the passing of time.;

The top Casio G7900-1 G-Shock watch has many other features. Not only is the watch water resistant at 660 feet, shock resistant its also resistant to extreme temperatures.

Casio also added a four-point protection design enlarging the buttons and the display format for easier operation. Then there is the calendar, which includes various time-measuring modes and the 12/24 hour format.

Features

  • Round sport watch featuring four-point design protection, large buttons and display format,
  • tide and moon-phase data
  • world time in 29 different zones
  • 50 mm resin case with mineral dial window
  • Digital display
  • Resin band with buckle closure
  • Water resistant to 200 m (660 ft)

This is another robust and beautifully designed watch and features, I’m sure anyone in the Maritime operator would like to get their hands on this. I owned one of these watches and wore one for four years while transiting the Gulf of Aden during operations and believe me there is good reason users refer to this model as the “best Casio G7900-1 G-Shock watch”, claiming that it is the best watch they have ever owned.

The BEST G-SHOCK FOR THE ROOKIE

G-SHOCK G100-1BVMCI

If you want the rugged G-Shock but not ready to pay the price expected for one of the more targeted watches already mentioned. G-Shock has something for you too. This model looks good on anything you’re wearing except of course a suit or tuxedo.

Make no mistake. Regardless of its bargain price. The G-SHOCK G100-1BVMCI still performs the way you would expect a high performing piece of equipment would.

It has a simple design with a resin strap which has a one pin securing system and multiple tightening levels, a case also made of resin that features eye-catching red detail on the top/bottom and indicators for each button.

With the buttons you will have to press hard in order to set anything. Can be a hassle. Thing is you only have to configure the watch once, and then never touch the buttons again until changing the battery. The battery life lasts about three years and simple enough to change yourself.

The display is an analog-digital one that features only two hands for minutes and hours and a small screen on the bottom that shows the values of the stopwatch, alarm, date, day of the week and the dual time feature that lets you set one more time zone to be displayed on this little screen beside the regular one showed by the analog hands. I will not go into the button combinations for every function in particular because these can be found in the user’s manual along with visual instructions.

The alarm is quite loud and it will be enough for most situations even though in noisy environments you cannot rely on it. Another feature that makes the G-Shock G100MCI shine is the magnetic resistance. Casio praises that contrary to the other cheap G-Shocks that quickly got broken any time you would expose them to magnets, the G100 will not. Now this is true but only to small power magnets. Once you expose it to higher power ones the watch will get broken just like any other watch.

In the end, this is an affordable watch that tries to include the qualities of the G-Shock line by making some shortcuts. If the pros outweigh the cons for you, then this is a very reliable and practical watch that should be taken into consideration if you think of buying one.

Features

  • 200-meter shock and water resistance,
  • EL Backlight with Afterglow,
  • 1/100 second stopwatch
  • 12/24hr format
  • Automatic calendar,
  • Daily alarm,
  • Magnetic resistance
  • Approx 3 year battery life

The G100-1BV will be your trusted loyal companion because like a trusted companion it will always have your back and you can count on it when you need it most. So what are you waiting for. Click here to get yours.

CONCLUSION

Casio G-Shock have spoiled us for choice. In our line of work it’s important that we have the best tools to ply our trade. The watch is no different.

G-Shock understands that just as there are types of security operations and details, Casio needed to develop diverse and specific watch models to meet the ever-changing demands and requirements of front line staff. Of course there are more models out there to suit your style and preferences I have only picked a select few.

To me G-Shock represents confidence, professionalism, precision and determination. It makes a statement, and mirrors the very attributes and capabilities security and front line personnel have.

Please share what type of watch you are wearing or leave a comment about a positive experience you’ve had with a product.

  1. As a woman, I wonder if Casio makes a G-Shock for women? I could wear the men’s one of any one of the series you reviewed, but I think most of them would be a bit large for my wrist. The watch looks like it would meet all the situations and conditions that I would need it for. Mostly I work in very cold areas. The solar power could be useful, however we don’t get a lot of sunlight, so maybe not so practical. What about battery life? Especially in cold conditions.

Thank you. I look forward to your reply! 🙂

    1. Hi Karin,

I am putting up a review for womens G-Shock watches soon so watch this space.

You are right, The G-Shocks I have currently reviewed are mostly mens but they are cool enough and certainly tough enough to handle anything you have in mind. They continually develop and improve their womens product line to meet any requirements.

Keep an eye out for my Baby-G review coming soon.

  2. Wow! This watch seems to have all the bells and whistles. It’s a one stop watch for all! I can’t believe that any watch could do everything this one does.

The G Shock for the Rookie would be my choice. It might take me a bit of time to figure out how to read everything :-)I like the features and the fact that the battery lasts 3 years? Awesome! The water resistant feature is also important.I’m curious as to how much this watch costs?

  3. Back in the day I used to wear Baby-G watches, just because they were the thing everyone was wearing, but I always liked their functionality apart from the looks.

So the ones you were just showcasing seem like exactly the kind of watch I’ve been looking for. They sure have come a long way since the day I was wearing Baby-G (this was at least 15 years ago).

    1. Hi Petra,

I am putting up a review for womens G-Shock watches soon. Watch this space.

You are right, Casio have been around a very long time and have developed a brand around being a versatile and rugged watch. This has not stopped them from continually developing and improving their product to satiffy every possible requirement.

Keep an eye out for my Baby-G review coming soon.

  4. These watches look like they could withstand a nuclear bomb but really stylish also. I didn’t know that Casio were the makers of the G-Shock but I suppose it makes sense as Casio is the leading brand of watches that last. I know that’s not their slogan but I thought it suited them, maybe I could get a promotions deal out of it, lol.

My son has just started going out with his mates in town every weekend and I wanted to buy him a reliable watch that would not only do its job but not break at the slightest of hits in case he got into a bit of a fight whilst he’s out, you know what young boys are like when they are finally legal to go out drinking, lol Casio was always going to be my first choice but wasn’t sure what type to get him and when I found your G-Shock watch review I think I have found the perfect one… The GW-9400-1CR, what a great looking watch and also looks very durable.

Do you think my 18 years old son would be ok with this choice or should I let him choose?

    1. Hey Matthew,

My first watch when I was able to wear one ironically was a Casio which I cracked the window screen display during a game of bullrush. That happened the third day I had it. I wore that watch like that for another year or so. A few years later I got my first G-Shock and have not looked back since.

The GW-9400-1CR, is a good choice but he wouldn’t need all the features of the watch but it looks great. I would also look at the G-SHOCK G100-1BVMCI. Its a great starter and it can handle anything. Its probably a better suited for your sons needs.

      Thanks for the comment.
